Sugarcane is one of the world’s most renewable resources. Grown in Brazil’s climate, it regenerates quickly after harvest and captures CO₂ during its growth cycle.
BioMax™ begins with Braskem’s I’m Green™ bio-based HDPE. The process starts with sugarcane grown in Brazil. After harvest, the sugarcane is processed into ethanol, which Braskem converts into ethylene and then into HDPE resin. We mold that resin into BioMax™ containers at our facility. The result is packaging made using a plant-based material while retaining the familiar strength and durability of HDPE.
Braskem’s I’m green™ plastic is made from sugarcane, a renewable resource that regrows after harvest. Using sugarcane in place of fossil-based raw materials helps reduce reliance on petroleum.
BioMax™ jars are made from Braskem’s plant-based HDPE. They can enter the same #2 recycling stream as conventional HDPE, so customers can place them in household recycling where their local program accepts small HDPE containers.
Braskem prioritizes new sugarcane growing areas that don’t require artificial irrigation. This helps limit the need to draw water from rivers, reservoirs, or groundwater for the crop.
As sugarcane grows, it absorbs carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. That plant-based carbon becomes part of Braskem’s I’m green™ HDPE, the material used to make BioMax™ containers.
Braskem makes the I’m green™ bio-based HDPE resin used in BioMax™ containers. We use that resin to mold the finished jars.

Braskem’s bio-based polyethylene has the same basic characteristics as conventional polyethylene. BioMax™ gives you the familiar strength and function of an HDPE jar with a renewable source for the resin.
BioMax™ containers are HDPE #2 plastic and can enter recycling programs that accept HDPE containers. Check local guidelines, as acceptance can vary by area and may depend on the container’s contents and labeling.
The sugarcane used to produce Braskem’s I’m green™ bio-based polyethylene is grown in Brazil. Braskem sources the resulting ethanol from suppliers through its responsible sourcing program.
